The Ithaca Ballet proudly presents the timeless romantic ballet, Giselle.

After 170 years Giselle remains one of the most popular ballets worldwide and is revived frequently by companies large and small.Giselle’s story of love , betrayal and forgiveness is a compelling one. Giselle is a young peasant girl who is wooed by and falls in love with the handsome nobleman Albrecht who has disguised himself as a peasant. When Hilarion the Huntsman, also in love with Giselle, reveals that Albrecht is already engaged, Giselle dies of a broken heart. After death, Giselle becomes one of the Wilis, ghost-like maidens who were engaged to be married but died before their wedding day. The Wilis and their queen Myrtha take revenge on any man who enters the forest after midnight by forcing him to dance to death. Both Hilarion and Albrecht enter the forest, but Giselle’s pure love saves only one of them from death.
